RGL JV ODOT SR-8 Bridge Replacement

ODOT Project 175-23
Akron, OH

Joint venture crews from The Great Lakes Construction Co. and The Ruhlin Company are in the thick of constructing the five-pier substructure for the new 1600’ long, 160’ tall southbound SR-8 bridge in Akron. Preparation for structural steel erection is also underway with grading work for the “launch pit” where structural steel members will be erected at ground level, north of the new bridge, and then incrementally launched across the Little Cuyahoga River Valley. Roadway construction, complete with embankment, storm sewer, and noise walls, is happening concurrently to tie the new southbound bridge into existing SR-8, with Glennwood Ave. and Perkins Rd. on/off ramps being shifted to fit the new southbound alignment. Current north and southbound traffic will be shifted onto the new bridge in the Fall of 2025, followed by demolition of the existing bridge and construction of the SR-8 northbound bridge in its place.
