Civil / Structural Engineering Co-Op
Great Lakes is looking for forward thinkers who are majoring in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering and are interested in Construction Design for civil construction projects.
We have a new and unique co-op opportunity for the Summer of 2023. The position will focus on developing technical skills in design, civil engineering, structural engineering, and structural analysis. The role will assist the Engineering Team with the design of excavation support systems, formwork design, timber falsework design, and miscellaneous steel design. Auto CAD, Inventor, or Solid Work experience is preferred, but not necessary.
The Civil/Structural Engineering Co-Op position will work from the office most of the day, with light field exposure to civil engineering projects in various sectors (transportation, water and wastewater treatment, and private industrial).

FIELD SUPPORT COORDINATOR
JOB PURPOSE
The responsibility of a Field Support Coordinator is to oversee the warehouse and yard, facilitating a variety of administrative and order processing tasks.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

SURVEY PARTY CHIEF
Location: Cincinnati, OH
JOB PURPOSE
The Survey Party Chief role is responsible for preliminary, location, and construction surveys; specifically, layout of structures, including bridges, retaining walls, and noise walls.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Responsible for leading a one-man survey crew in required project layout staking operations
- Accurately reads and interprets engineering plans
- Assist the Survey Chief in scheduling with Project Superintendents and Survey Coordinator
- Actively communicates with project supervision, Survey Manager or Coordinator daily or as needed
- Generates all project stakeout data information from survey software
- Operate survey instruments such as robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, and other standard survey equipment to collect field data

EARTHWORK SUPERINTENDENT

JOB PURPOSE
The Earthwork Superintendent is responsible for the safety, quality, efficiency, and timeliness of the project. This position will provide on-site coordination for all phases of the project, including material, equipment, subcontractors, and labor. While there are specific responsibilities and expectations described below, it is essential that the Earthwork Superintendent be organized, possess good judgment skills, communicate effectively, and have technical knowledge.

PROJECT ENGINEER

JOB PURPOSE
The Project Engineer (PE) is an integral part of the project team working closely with Estimating, Project Management, and Operations. As such the roles and duties of the PE are very diverse and include the following: Establishing production rates for field crews, coding project time, documenting completed quantities, maintaining SWPPP documentation, preparing two-week look-ahead agendas, maintaining force account records, maintaining as-builts, assisting with submittals and transmittals, etc.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, refine and update the project schedule
- Complete knowledge and understanding of contract drawings/specifications
- Understand project costs and manage company assets
- Create and manage project documentation
- Coordinate project operations including subcontractors and material vendors
- Knowledge of all regulations to ensure all aspects of the project are compliant
- Provide leadership and maintain effective working relationships with the on-site staff
- Enforce Safety, Quality, Efficiency and Core values
- Develop daily crew lists and manage field activities to ensure project completion date is met
- Lead weekly foreman meeting
- Develop two-week forecast to proactively identify issues that could lead to problems and facilitate solutions
- Maintain regulatory compliance for projects
- Ability to interface and maintain good relationship with owners
REQUIREMENTS
- Civil Engineering or construction-related degree preferred with no less than 10 years of progressive responsibility supervising bridge-focused construction projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask on complex projects
- 10+ years construction-related experience
- Able to meet deadlines and driven to closure
- Ability to read construction drawings and understand specifications
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time exempt position, the workweek for employees is normally considered 40 hours. However, the greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to this position.

ABOUT THE JOB
