ENVIRONMENTAL & SAFETY COORDINATOR

Location: Hinckley, OH

JOB PURPOSE

The Environmental & Safety Coordinator provides environmental and safety related support to their site management teams, participates in continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with Great Lakes’ programs, policies, and practices in conjunction with Federal, State and Local environmental and safety regulations.  In this role, the Environmental & Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting facilities and operational areas of a complex nature or with high safety/environmental impact potential.

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Partners with site management teams to support daily operations and continuous improvement initiatives from an environmental and safety perspective.
    • Overseas and conducts training for bargaining and non-bargaining employees, temporary employees, subcontractors, and other relevant associates on Environmental and Safety programs, including but not limited to new hire orientation, safety talks.
    • Develops, promotes, and maintains a safe working environment through policies, programs, and processes designed to identify hazards, and evaluate hazardous conditions and risks.
    • Audits facility and equipment for safety compliance to Federal and State regulations as well as company and owner requirements.
    • Conducts hazard assessments and identifies appropriate personal protective equipment.
    • Conducts workplace incident investigations and root cause analyses.
    • Performs routine environmental audits and safe work practices, reports deficiencies, and recommends corrective actions.
    • Assists site management in preparing and conducting internal/external audits.
    • Maintains site metrics; presents environmental and safety results to management teams on a periodic basis.
    • Provides backup and subject matter expert (SME) support for other Safety Coordinators as required.
    • Submits EHS compliance reports and recommendations to the Director of Risk and Compliance.
    • Accurately and efficiently manages and maintains all environmental, health and safety related documents such as, but not limited to: OSHA 300 logs, incident reports, training, inspection records and safety training logs.
    • Assists the Director of Risk and Compliance with all aspects of the Environmental, Safety & Health program for the facility, including continuous improvement of safety & health programs that are proactive, data based, and prioritized according to risk assessments and hazard reduction potential.
    • Lead safety initiatives with a focus on advancing safety always represents the business in a professional manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

    • BS in Environmental Sciences, Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, Engineering; AND/OR

Professional Certification

    • Registered Certified Safety Professional
    • OSHA 30-hour completion required

Minimum Experience

    • Candidates with environmental and safety discipline training and 5+ years of experience in in an environmental and safety field
    • 3+ years in construction or related industry

    • Ability to perform audits, write, and submit reports
    • Proficient written and verbal skills, attention to detail
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based applications

SUMMER/FALL 2021 Internship/Co-Op - Equipment Shop

Great Lakes has an exciting opportunity for a summer position in our Equipment Shop with an opportunity to Co-Op during senior year and/or a potential steppingstone opportunity for a full- time position within the company. We are looking for an individual that has completed high school and is enrolled in a mechanics training program (auto mechanics, truck and diesel, heavy equipment, auto body, etc.). The minimum age requirement is 18. Our program is intended to provide hands on experience to supplement the mechanics training program. Hours are flexible between 6 am and 6 pm to work with the school schedule.

We operate fabrication, repair, and paint shops at our facility in Hinckley with a staff of approximately 20 employees. The equipment maintained here builds infrastructure across Ohio and surrounding states.

The Shop Intern/Co-Op position we are recruiting for will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with parts procurement: order, pick up, inventory, organize
  • Assist maintaining preventive maintenance schedules for equipment
  • Assist and observe shop mechanics performing equipment repairs
  • Prep equipment for transport: check fluids, fuel, stage
  • Possible ability to assist field mechanics with repairs on construction sites

PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT

Location: OH, PA, WV

JOB PURPOSE

The Project Superintendent is responsible for the safety, quality, efficiency, and timeliness of the project.  This position will provide on-site coordination for all phases of the project, including material, equipment, subcontractors, and labor.  While there are specific responsibilities and expectations described below, it is essential that the Project Superintendent be organized, possess good judgment skills, communicate effectively, and have technical knowledge of earthwork, drainage, structural concrete, drilled shafts, etc.

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Develop, refine and update the project schedule
    • Complete knowledge and understanding of contract drawings/specifications
    • Understand project costs and manage company assets
    • Create and manage project documentation
    • Coordinate project operations including subcontractors and material vendors
    • Knowledge of all regulations to ensure all aspects of the project are compliant
    • Provide leadership and maintain effective working relationships with the on-site staff
    • Enforce Safety, Quality, Efficiency and Core values
    • Develop daily crew lists and manage field activities to ensure project completion date is met

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Oversee the development of project schedule ensuring that all projects are delivered on-time, within the scope and within budget
    • Supervise project buyout with the estimator
    • Perform and oversee submittals and the RFI process
    • Lead planning meetings & attend progress meetings
    • Create agenda for planning and progress meetings
    • Execute the cost to complete reports
    • Review proposed subcontractor and vendor payments
    • Analyze subcontractor billings
    • Maintain logs as needed - Change orders, field orders, submittal, RFI's, change conditions, delays, etc.

This is a full-time exempt position, the workweek for employees is normally considered 40 hours. However, the greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to this position.
