ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring job site safety, to include: assisting with training, documentation, audits and reporting. The Safety Coordinator will assist in safety management and coordination by researching, planning, developing and implementing programs, and procedures necessary to meet the compliance and safety needs of The Great Lakes Construction Co. and the project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES                     

  • Ensures EHS inspections / audits are completed as necessary to comply with regulations, laws or reporting requirements.
  • Submits EHS compliance reports and recommendations to the Safety Director.
  • Contributes to coordinating safety training for all employees.
  • Assists supervisors in the investigation of all incidents and reports ensuring proper reporting.
  • Leads and/or assists in safety meetings with emphasis on employee participation.
  • Manages and maintains all environmental, health and safety related documents for the project.
  • Assists in the processing of worker’s compensation claims and maintains necessary records of claims.
  • Recommend policies and procedures to reduce risks.
  • Conduct orientation for all new employees in safety policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Work with a focus on advancing safety.
  • Assist the department Safety Director with all aspects of the Environmental, Safety & Health program for the facility, including continuous improvement of safety and health programs that are proactive, data based, and prioritized according to risk assessments and hazard reduction potential.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of EHS programs, policies, procedures and action plans, including employee training.
  • Assist with maintenance and communication on safety key metrics.
  • Represent safety and actively contribute on the Safety Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • OSHA 30 hour training completion required
  • Knowledge of federal and state safety regulations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • The ability to write basic reports and follow up on issues
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

PREFERRED EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health or related field
  • 5 years’ experience in relevant safety field
  • Experience in construction safety training

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work conditions are indoors in a normal non-smoking office environment and outdoors under all weather conditions.
  • The majority of work schedule will be performed in the field.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Great Lakes Construction Co. is seeking a Contracts Manager (CM) to work in a team-oriented environment. This position will be responsible for creating and negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance is maintained, and company procedures and objectives are achieved.  The CM must have and maintain a detailed understanding of project estimating, project management and administration, and be willing to develop a complete understanding of contract terms and conditions and risk allocations.  The CM will need to work efficiently and collaboratively with estimators and project management teams, as necessary, to efficiently and effectively perform the CM’s responsibilities. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsibilities include all contract purchasing including procurement of subcontracts and purchase orders. 
  • The CM is the lead negotiator of purchasing terms and conditions for all vendors and subcontractors.
  • Develop, maintain and enforce corporate purchasing policies.
  • The CM will meet with prospective subcontractors and vendors to review project details, scope and ensure an understanding of RFQ requirements.
  • Cultivate purchasing practices along with managing and developing strong relationships with key vendors and suppliers. 
  • Ensure accuracy and appropriateness of contract text and any attachments.
  • Draft contractual provisions based on strategy discussions, management input and organizational needs.
  • The CM will work through the various phases: estimating phase, buyout phase, contract phase, project phase and the project closeout to overcome any difficulties which may prevent total contract fulfillment.
  • Participate in various task force groups as requested by management.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by management.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent business experience
  • Minimum of 5-10 years purchasing related experience, including purchasing contract negotiations and administration experience
  • Knowledge of contracting concepts and contract acquisition law and regulations are essential
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills are also desirable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Initiative and attention to detail essential
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and company information
  • High level of accuracy
  • Problem solving skills and analytical thinking
  • Ability to manage the schedule effectively, and cover a multitude of tasks

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Certification from The National Contracts Management Association (CCCM) is desirable
  • Experience in the construction industry
  • Knowledge of Vista Accounting Software is a plus

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time exempt position, the work week for employees is normally considered 40 hours.  However, the greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to this position.

 WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is performed in a non-smoking office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is typical of most office environments.
