CHIA Runway 10-28 Safety Area Improvements

Great Lakes moved Runway 10-28 330 feet to the east, flattening out an existing vertical curve, and installing an EMAS bed on each end of the runway. EMAS (Engineered Material Arresting System) bed installation requires the precise placement of prefabricated cementitious blocks as an extension of the runway. The project includes 130,000 CY of excavation, 5,000 FT of pipe installation, 131,000 SY of pavement and 109,000 SF of EMAS blocks.
